And how are the Gigaflops doing over time? Also an all time high?

Yes I have been having no problems here for a while now.

My last batch is Valid (115) · Invalid (1) · not bad at all.

And I know we have a few members with many more Valid tasks here too.

Current Wrapper is OK by me

State: All (1184) · In progress (24) · Validation pending (0) · Validation inconclusive (0) · Valid (1155) · Invalid (4) · Error (1)

Invalids were caused by me activating a proxy which did not pass port 3128 properly

Only item I fear is if they upgrade the current wrapper to the one vLHC is
using I am only getting 1/2 the daily credit with the new wrapper over there.

Brian do you have BOTH of those tasks running at the same time?

With your pc you will only be able to run one Atlas task at a time.

(because yours does not have enough RAM)

And as far as the frozen tasks you will have to abort them and clean up your VB Manager and then get a couple new tasks but suspend one and just let the other task run and see if that will get you a completed and valid task.

Only one task was running- crept up a bit but passed deadline. Reinstalled vbox anyway, as that was using no resources except memory. Task aborted, waste of time. I will let the other one run, but if that sticks I will suspend participation

I have similar type of "challenges". I have two task, now other is suspended to 99.996% and estimate is 00:00:04. However, the other one is running 99.999% and estimate has been more than an hour 00:00:00. If i can not get done, I have just delete Atlas tasks :(

Have you tried restarting the boinc manager/client... When I restart it, suddenly multiple of these long running jobs are done and get uploaded. Worth a try?

Unfortunately my several attemps to restart Boinc manager (closing just manager or manager + tasks) did not help.
Now I still have two tasks, the other one is suspended to 99,996%, time consumed 31:13:29, left 00:00:03. The other one is on, 100.000% done, time consumed 46:38:37 and time left 00:00:00. So it has take alone for this other package 46:38:37 - 31:13:29 ~ 15h to calculate missing 100.000% - 99,996% ~ 0.004%.

I agree. This project does not work at all.
The jobs run, run time goes on and on and on.
But in fact, cpu time doesn't increase at all,
the virtual box takes almost no CPU, and these
jobs just plug the job queue and sit there,
and count the percentage with ever decreasing
speed, limiting to 100%, but even after reaching
100% they sit there for hours and days.
I have reinstalled the latest windows 64-bit
Boinc client with virtualbox, but ATLAS jobs
are just a pain. Maybe there is some misconfiguration
somewhere, but the user should be warned, and
jobs should not be accepted and started. It's buggy.

Okay everybody, I haven't run Boinc in quite some time. I started it up tonight and Atlas seems to not be doing anything even though I downloaded something. It sits at zero and doesn't show up in my tasks list like Seti and Enigma.

I've got everything set to run anytime but it sits at zero, when I've seen on the site that it is running. Yet in the advanced view in the tasks area I get the same thing that it's ready to start, like Milkyway but then just doesn't start.

I keep reading and hearing about virtualbox but doesn't that run automatically? I've never seen anything on the Atlas webpage saying you need to set anything up on virtualbox for atlas to work, so I don't know what's going on, or NOT going on I guess is more appropriate.

Any help would be appreciated.

By reading some of the other comments here though, it looks like something is just amiss.

ATLAS@home is running fine on my Windows 8.1 PC. Instead vLHC2home is at standstill on it and 2 Linux boxes because of a server problem at CERN which won't be fixed until next Tuesday.

One of the problems seems to be that the VT-x is not enabled in a lot of proprietory PCs, as This post points out.
And with nice UFEI systems its even difficult to find the switch to turn it on.

Oracle tell us that they have pop-ups in the Vbox Manager to warn you, but in the case of my machine there was no message - the VM just sat not booting, with the CernVM splash screen motionless in the console.

So my suggestions are

  • Find out how to check or enable VT-x (or AMD-v depending on your hardware) settings for your particular machine and OS. If its a new shop-bought system a call or email to the helpline would be good, else browsing Youtube will show a number of videos going through some typical machines.
  • Install the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack which gives you a view into the VM as it boots.

1 Open Boinc Manager in the Advanced view, select the Tasks tab.
2 If BOINC manages to launch the VM for an Atlas task, a "Show VM Comsole" button will arrive in the left pane, up to about as minute after the "Elapsed Time" indicater has started counting.
3 Click "Open Console" and see whats in the window. If it shows a Spash Screen saying "CernVM will boot in 1 second" constantly, go look at the VT-x BIOS settings as discussed above.
4 If the CernVM sucessfully boots, you'll get several screens of text scroll past, ending with start to run ATLAS job, output redirected into runtime_log
5 If we have got this far, the VM will start recieving lots of data from CERN. Microsoft's Task Manager (and lots of other tools) will show you internet traffic, (probably shown as WiFi adaptor) and you should see some Large blocks of data arriving. If not, maybe something has gone wrong with Firewall, Router or AV Software settings.

I hope this is of some help, maybe others can contribute further ideas.

More and more concurrent running jobs, but the Gigaflops are not increasing...
So we have more and more outstanding jobs, but there are not more jobs returned complete...

So, add more and/or faster systems > more Gigaflops :)

Thanks Phil,

Yes, my issue was the virtualization technology disabled in BIOS setup.
Strange that no error was reported from BOINC or Virtualbox, everything
seemed to run, no warning anywhere, but never wanted to finish.

Another piece of news is that the ATLAS@Home isn't in the BOINC list of projects when adding a new project anymore. One has to use a direct URL to add.
