Dear All,

A new application version (1.36) is now available for Windows only.

************************************************************************
The new application version is tuned to the upcoming data taking of LHC at 13 TeV collisions.
A lot of changes have been done to the software and the workunits so there might be unexpected issues with the execution. Please, let us know if you observe problems or failures of the WUs.
**************************************************************************

Thank you all!

I am a new user and had issues, so I removed the project from BOINC. How do I get it back?

Hi

@Roy: Just add it again.

I did a project reset on my box and got these versions:
ATLAS_vbox_1.34_image.vdi
ATLAS_vbox_1.35_windows_x86_64_vm_isocontext.iso
ATLAS_vbox_job_1.35_windows_x86_64.xml
ATLAS_vboxwrapper_1.28_windows_x86_64.exe

Should there be any 1.36 in the file names?

No startup error, but the VMs hang on the CernVM boot loader.
(VirtualBox 4.3.26)

The files that you got are the correct ones!

Thank you!

The Boincmanager shows them as running, VirtualBox too. But if I check the console, all VMs hang on the boot screen. Same situation with VirtualBox 4.3.28.

After switching back to 4.3.26, several reboots and a project reset - no change. Does it work for anyone else ?

I'm not shure if it is working or not.

I'm running WUs in 1:30 / 1:45 hours and they are down- and uploading fine. But I'm still not shure, if they do something real useful.

BOINC-Manager tells running, Task-Manager tells vboxheadless as running, but BoincTasks tells me, that they are only consuming 60 - 80 % of the Prozessor-Core ?

When I use "Show VM console", I can't Access any of the former known Screens. The only Screen I can see is:

I'm still using VB 4.3.12

I have checked few finished jobs of Yeti and they produced valid results. The current setup is not quite sufficient from the volunteer perspective. The graphical activity display was a bit delayed since it is taking more work as originally thought, and we are now working on it now after the software release for the upcoming data taking is in production.

Your help in identifying the issues over the weekend is much appreciated.

Hi,

Atlas seems indeed to be running properly after resetting and downloading the new 1.36.

At 38.9 %, running for just over an hour now and estimated 1h38 min to go.

Thanks !

Kind Regards,

K.

It is taking even longer than usual to even d/l all the files just to start a task again.

I started the d/l on 2 of the hosts I use here and left the house for 3 hours and am back home to see it just got to 87% in 3 hours just for the 506.29MB ATLAS_vbox_1.34_image.vdi and it looks like each task 147.16MB task on this 8-core will take about 90mins each to d/l

So to d/l the usual 20 tasks I run here will take a loooooooong time just to actually start them.

I'm not sure what will happen on the Win8.1 I started loading 3 hours ago where I tried doing what it always would take to get new tasks without having to download that huge 506.29MB was get new tasks while the last one from the previous batch was still on that particular host and it wouldn't have to d/l that again.

It happened on my three Win7's and the Win8.1 every time unless I do that.

(ok off to check the Win8.1 and see how it is doing)

edit: no luck there either......had to d/l that 506.29MB .vdi along with the rest and it is taking even longer (65% after 3 hours of DSL d/ling)

Not sure if I should even try to load the other 2 hosts right now since it will probably slow the DSL down even more

Looks like it works on your Windows machines. Which VirtualBox version you're using?

The new version is working just fine here. Compared to the old version credit seems to be significantly (about 60%) lower though.

Kind regards,

3 Atlas@home tasks are running in the 1.36 version on my 8.1 Windows PC together with one CPDN task. Memory occopation is 57% of 20 GB, CPU usage 99%.

I have versions 4.3.18 and 4.3.20 on the ones I run here and I have another with 4.3.24 since I run all 6 hosts over at vLHC too and I usually don't update the ones that work there.

So far 4.3.24 has been working there so when I get the time I will start updating the others.....but I try to do that just after they send in a pair of those 24 hour tasks since many times over the years it has lost tasks after the update and reboot and losing near 24 hours on those tasks are not something I like to do.

I don't use the one I have with 4.3.24 here because it is my 3-core Phenom that just runs the vLHC X2 and Einstein GPU X3 and I have its twin pc doing the same thing so I use the 3 quad-cores and the 8-core here and over there (and CMS-dev)

edit: I just noticed you have a Win8.1 so I checked mine and it is running version 4.3.18 with Boinc version 7.4.42 and so far it is able to run the new v1.36 here

Oh no... Virtualization Extensions had been disabled after a BIOS upgrade.

I'm now using VirtualBox 4.3.28, everything works fine.
Many thanks for you help.

Since this just came up I decided to update my VB on one of the hosts (Win7)

As usual Oracle is its usual self with problems as simple as it takes a long time to d/l on my dsl and then it won't install so I end up doing another d/l and installing the Extension.

And a couple reboots since Boinc says it isn't installed but the d/l from Oracle doesn't say "reboot" like a normal program says if it is needed.

Then I start a CMS-dev task and it takes a couple minutes to start running in the VB and then the same with the vLHC X2 but they are running like they should.

Atlas?

No it decided once again that it doesn't have the disk space so they just crash and then I remove that from the Boinc manager and VB manager.

A couple tries with no luck so I just saved the last task so if it decides to ever work I won't have to d/l that .vdi 502MB

This is VB v 4.3.24 and since I never trust Oracle VB I didn't want to try the newest version unless it has been proven to work with a Win7 and Boinc 7.4.42

I even tried that *Fix* again and it still says the same thing as I mentioned in another thread and will not run.

So only 3 hosts are running here for me now.

But all 6 have no problem running vLHC or CMS-dev

(I forgot to add that the suspended tasks from the previous VB version from CMS-dev and vLHC crashed and had to be aborted so I could then load new ones and start them up again so I am glad they were closer to 25% than 100% finished )

Atlas@home is running like clockwork on my Windows 8.1 PC with VirtualBox 4.3.12 and BOINC 7.4.42. But it has a 20 GB RAM.

No problem for me either running 3 at a time on Win7 64-bit with BOINC 7.6.2 x64 and VirtualBox-4.3.28 with 12 GB working memory, and the work units go faster.

But as Hubbie noted above, the points per day are less by almost half. I don't care at all if that is merely a measurement anomaly, but I am wondering if in getting the Windows version to work, they had to leave out some optimization? Maybe VB takes care of that equally for all versions?
