Dear All,

In the next hour a new application version for all platforms will be released.

This version will include a new VM image that will support the following improvements:

Multiple Console Support
===============
The image now supports multiple (5) consoles.
They are organized as follows:
tty1: runtime_log ---> This is the job log
tty2: runtime_log.err
tty3: cron.out ---> This is the log of the cron job that starts the job
tty4: cron.err
tty5: top

From the BOINC manager, you should choose the ‘Show VM console’ option (in order to have this option you should install the Virtual Box extension and you have to have remote desktop installed).

To switch between console you should press Alt+F1—>F5

Graphics Support
===========
A Web sever has been configured in the image to support the BOINC graphics function. For now only a default index page is provided that shows a log directory where the logs shown in the consoles can be downloaded.

From the BOINC manager, you should choose the ‘Show graphics’ option.

Your inputs are important,
Please let us know if you are having problems.

Thank you all

Thanks.
So it still has the issue with excessive writing to the vbox.log file.
There are newer versions, that have that( and other)issues fixed.
Latest is 26178, which has been around for a while.

Why has that not been implemented?

The new version with this new image contain a lot of changes in the VM image.
For that reason, the new BOINC wrapper version will be implemented separately.

Thank you very much for your inputs!

Happy to see this new Version with all the changes. Let's see what it brings for us

For that reason, the new BOINC wrapper version will be implemented separately.
One step after the other, that is fully okay. I can follow up that all These changes are hard enough and should Show first that they are stable.

Bute please Keep in mind, the upgrade of the wrapper is important for all SSD-Users, because it will enlarge the lifetime of their SSDs. And I'm shure, under your powerchrunchers will be a lot of SSDs

Is it the normal Irritation of BOINC with a new application Version or are the new WUs much bigger than 1.38 ?

4 1.39er already finished, 2 good and 2 with "Bestätigungsfehler"

Can you explain, why they are faulty ?

2 PCs got there daily restart.

All Atlas WUs start from scratch again, a lot of wasted time.

If I remember right, this worked better with 1.38

Strange looking *Guest Log*

I see you still use that ancient VB Version: 4.3.12

I only have 4 of the v1.39 so far and still have 8 of the v1.38

Hard to believe......I just checked one of my hosts to see how it is doing with version 1.39

Well right now it has been downloading for 3 hours and 51 minutes and is at 96.50%

513.82MB

Ridiculous

ALSO WITH THIS NEW RUN I seem to be having a disproportionate number of
INVALIDS with other users also getting invalids on the resends.

Are we having up-load problems again or is this a new/old issue

with the "ridiculous" slowness of downloading the image file are we having network issues?

Thank you for updating.

Just checked the system now and it looks like there is no any upload/download issue.
The invalid number is no more than version 1.38.

Please let us know if you still have problems with downloads and uploads and any other problem that you are having.

Thank you very much for your cooperation!

My first finished 1.39 is *Invalid* and looking at the stderr it is the same as what Yeti and Tom have.

It looks like my workunit was a trick, and not a treat... with a validate error.

http://atlasathome.cern.ch/workunit.php?wuid=1969075

although it was resent and finally validated by another host, at twice the runtime.

Minor detail: The map in the VM is called rumtime_log and not runtime_log

Well worth logging, but not really related to particle physics.
