Hey there,

I had the issue with all ATLAS@home tasks that virtual box gave an error something like "failed to enter in a timely state" at like 8% or smth.

I wondered if it could be solved by looking at the Oracle Virtualbox itself and was right. The installation of Oracle VB has been automatically executed during the BOINC installation process and so was not well configuered. It had some network issues so it couldn't connect to the internet.
I uninstalled the old version (4.13.smth) and freshly installed the new 5.0.12, now it's working (atm at 13% and keeps going ;))

What I also found is, that in the virtual boxes it tries to get the exact time from pool.ntp.org and that failed. With the new version everything is going well now :) (atm 16%)

hope I could have helped someone else
and sorry for my bad english ;)

I seem to have hosed my virtual box installation. I attempted to install one of the open source FEM packages which uses docker to start and install a virtual Linux machine. Since I ran this install nothing seems to be able to start in Virtual Box. I need to be able to load my own machines into Virtual Box, but if doing so clobbers the BOINC images, I am in a pickle, as they say. Is there a safe way to use Virtual Box for both BOINC and user images? Any help would be appreciated.

Follow up note: I have salvaged the BOINC tasks by rebooting, but my original question remains. I may need to post this to a new or different thread. I used this one because it was the error reported by BOINC. Thanks in advance for any help.

I thought I would add a quick note about a solution to the problem. In my case it was a combination of a failed installation of Calculix which for some reason insists on installing to the default machine. I suspended work on ATLAS and Cosmology @ home and then uninstalled and reinstalled VBox. I then loaded the virtual machines I needed (Ubuntu and CentOS). After this I manually created a "boot2docker-vm" then re-ran the Calculix install. Alas it failed miserably, however, this time without messing up any of the other VM's. ATLAS and Cosmology@Home are humming happily along now and I can continue knocking my head against the wall with openFOAM and Calculix. Incidentally the deal.ii.min image installed without a hitch so I may wind up just writing my own code.

Thanks for listening to all this.
