I just got a task that aborted with this error:
18/01/2017 21:14:18 | ATLAS@home | Aborting task BmrLDmuJvnpnDDn7oo6G73TpABFKDmABFKDmC0LKDmABFKDmxqu1Xo_0: exceeded disk limit: 20290.07MB > 5722.05MB

Anybody has a clue what could cause this type of error and how to avoid it in the future?

Maybe , a faulty WU.

Causes are unknown, the log reveals :

Disk usage limit exceeded
</message>


nothing helpfull appears.

sometimes a message says "have to clean up your environment"

When it arrives , you have to open virtualbox and delete all the vm with a red sign.because it corrupt the way the next tasks are executed.

You reboot the computer to reset...

After it occurred, I checked all the VMs in VM VirtualBox Manager, and all were good (i.e. in Running state). I have had corrupted VMs is the past, but for some other reasons.

Are you recommended to reboot the computer after deleting a corrupted VM?

The task causing superseding the disk limit ran in slot 1 (Create VM. boinc_35dbbd618c7b2353, slot#1), so have a look in that slot folder,
whether there are remnants of old tasks, that could not be cleaned by BOINC or VirtualBox for some reason.

It's not always useful to reboot a computer but in the past , i noticed if i want to be sure the changes i made really apply with boinc and virtualbox,it's safer to reboot.
Sometimes , even with changes(un-attach,re-attach or reset project) boinc keeps in mind old parameters.(same for wu corrupted)
In that way , you're sure that you begin or restart a work unit with your new parameters applied.

I did not check at the time of the error, but now the slot has been re-used by some other WU and all files are dated of 21/01, so I guess it is clean.
If such problem occurs again, I will check the logs of the WU itself and the content of the slot, to see if I find anything abnormal. Hopefully it would help nail down the root cause.

The problem has not re-occurred since that one case.
