1) Message boards : News : No more ATLAS tasks, credit will be transferred to LHC soon (Message 6306)

A minor issue - the URLs delivered by the VM Apache need to be migrated to the new site.

Thanks for reporting this, the URLs have been fixed now (it may take a few hours to propagate). Let us know if you see any other URLs leftover from the old project.

Hi all,

There are no more tasks left to run on ATLAS@Home, please disconnect from the project and join LHC@Home. The credit will be moved to LHC soon - due to various people on holiday around Easter it will probably happen in 1-2 weeks from now.

Thanks again for all your contributions to ATLAS@Home and please continue on LHC@Home!
3) Message boards : News : All remaining ATLAS tasks will be cancelled on Friday 7 April (Message 6295)

I have now cancelled all the remaining tasks.

rebel9, I could not see your tasks active in the BOINC database, so maybe they were already past the deadline? You won't get credit for those, sorry.

We are happy to see that many of you have moved over to LHC@Home. There are still a few remaining tasks left over here on ATLAS@Home, and in order to complete the move to LHC we plan to cancel all these tasks on Friday 7 April. If you are still running some ATLAS tasks please try to complete them by then so that you can get the credit.

After we have cancelled all the tasks we can proceed to move the credit over to LHC.
5) Message boards : News : ATLAS/LHC consolidation is ready (Message 6259)
Posted 21 Mar 2017 by David Cameron
Hi all,

After several months of extensive testing, we are now ready to complete the move to LHC@Home! The ATLAS app is now out of beta so we encourage you to start crunching ATLAS tasks on LHC. We do not plan to submit any more tasks to ATLAS@Home.

As stated earlier, credit will not be lost! We will move all the credit accumulated here to LHC@Home once all the remaining tasks are finished. To make this easier it would be very helpful if your email address you register with is the same on both projects, since this is the only way to match the accounts on each project.

In the LHC project preferences you can select which apps to run, so if you want to only run ATLAS then check the ATLAS box only.

There is an updated version of Yeti's checklist available, so please check this if you experience problems. There is also a dedicated message board for ATLAS.

Thank you for your crunching on ATLAS@Home over the years and we look forward to continued crunching on LHC!

The current batch of WU have all been submitted and unfortunately we will not have any more until next week. So this weekend you can crunch other projects or give your computers a break :)

The problem was getting tasks into LHC and ATLAS at the same time. I've managed to fix this so there should be both single and multicore tasks available now.

We have a small issue submitting WU to both LHC and ATLAS at the same time, so they are all going to LHC at the moment. I'll try to get some more WU here but in the meantime you can try ATLAS@LHC@Home.

The infrastructure problems affecting all the WU in the last 2 days have been fixed so WU should work now if you get any.

I refer to this FAQ which is linked from the consolidated server:
http://lhcathome.web.cern.ch/test4theory/my-firewall-complaining-which-ports-does-project-use

Thanks, I will try to get this page updated with ATLAS info.

Connections to this host should be rare and in fact should only happen when the primary squid server at db-atlas-squid.ndgf.org is down
This is more and more confusing as I can not find any request to db-atlas-squid.ndgf.org in my logs.
Shouldn´t this be handled by CVMFS (inside the VM)?
Perhaps through atlas-condb.cern.ch as it is described here:
https://cernvm.cern.ch/portal/cvmfs/examples

This is not the squid for CVMFS, it's a squid in front of ATLAS conditions databases. If the squid fails or doesn't have the data cached, the task tries to read from another service called Frontier which is a http frontend to the databases. Over the weekend both the squids and Frontier services were hit hard and were brought down.

I think the situation has improved now - I have one WU which has been running for almost 1 hour using full CPU.

If this is a regular server/port that WUs contact, why is it not mentioned in the FAQ portlist?

Connections to this host should be rare and in fact should only happen when the primary squid server at db-atlas-squid.ndgf.org is down (which happened this weekend). Can you remind me where the FAQ portlist is and I will correct it?

Hi,

We are suffering infrastructure problems due to tasks running on the ATLAS grid which are overloading database servers.

This host ccsqfatlasli01.in2p3.fr is one of the servers that WU contact while running to get conditions data (basically data describing the geometry and status of the ATLAS detector), and this service is not working at the moment. I'm checking if we should wait for this service to be recovered or if there is an alternative one we can use.

I suspect the 4-day task is a different issue, one of the "normal" longrunners.

Can you check the stderr.txt in the slots directory? This will show you if the task is continually restarting. For example see this result with "Starting ATLAS job" every hour:

Things seem to be ok now, I see successful WU coming in again.

I got 2200 credit for a WU using 13 CPU hours, so it's worth leaving these running until they finish.

I found the problem, it's related to a small change I made yesterday. What is happening is that the task is running over and over again inside the VM. I have made a fix that will be automatically picked up by running tasks within a few hours so they should eventually exit. So if you want to get the credit for these longrunners it's better to keep them running.

I see the same problem everywhere, I'm checking it.

It should be ok now.

Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough and the cleaner script deleted the output before I could get to it...

Can you abort another one and send me a private message so I can look at it straight away?

Hi Yeti,

Can you abort one of them and I will take a look at the log?

Seems the clean up wasn't running as often as I thought. It should now run every day.

Nice video! Note that CERN has an official YouTube channel with plenty more :)
